30-Day Return Window

You have 30 days from the date you receive your order to request a return for eligible items. This generous window allows you ample time to decide if a book is right for you, while also being mindful of ensuring books are returned in truly resellable condition.

Eligibility for Returns – Books Must Be in NEW and UNREAD Resellable Condition

To be eligible for a full refund, returned books must be in perfect, new, unread, and resellable condition. This is crucial for us to be able to offer these books to other customers as new items. “Resellable condition” specifically means:

  • Unused and Undamaged: The book must be completely unused and undamaged, with no signs of having been read or handled beyond initial careful inspection.
  • Crisp, Uncreased Spine: The spine must be crisp and completely uncreased, indicating the book has not been opened wide or read.
  • Straight, Unbent Corners: Corners must be sharp and unbent.
  • Clean, Unmarked Pages: Pages must be pristine, clean, and unmarked, with absolutely no fingerprints, smudges, stains, highlighting, writing, or annotations of any kind.
  • Pages Must Be Crisp and New: Pages must be crisp and new, not dog-eared, wrinkled, or turned excessively, and lie flat when the book is closed.
  • Free of Odors: The book must be free of any odors, including but not limited to smoke, perfume, or food smells.
  • Original Condition: The book must be in the same original condition as when it was shipped to you. While original packaging is preferred, it is not always mandatory for returns to be considered for a partial refund (but does not guarantee a full refund if the book itself is not in perfect, unread condition).

Books returned that do not meet these strict “new and unread resellable condition” requirements will be subject to a partial refund or may be rejected for return at our discretion.

Non-Returnable Items

Certain items are not eligible for return, regardless of condition, for practical or hygiene reasons. These include:

  • Gift cards
  • Ebooks and digital products (if applicable)
  • Books returned in used or unsellable condition as per the detailed definition above (unless damaged upon arrival and reported as per “Damaged Items or Incorrect Orders” policy).

Initiating a Return

To start a return process, please:

  1. Contact our Customer Support team within 30 days of receiving your order at {email address}. Clearly state that you wish to initiate a return and include your order number and the reason for your return. Please be as detailed as possible about the book’s condition if you are returning due to damage upon arrival.
  2. Our team will review your request and assess eligibility based on our policy and the information provided. If your return is potentially eligible, we will provide you with return authorization and return instructions, including the return shipping address.
  3. Returns will not be accepted without prior return authorization from our Customer Support team. Please do not send items back before receiving our authorization and return instructions.

Proof of Purchase

To process any return, we require proof of purchase. Acceptable forms of proof include your order confirmation email, your order number, or the delivery slip included in your original package.

Partial Refunds for Books Not in New and Unread Resellable Condition

We understand that circumstances may arise where a book is returned but not in perfect, new, and unread resellable condition. In these cases, partial refunds will be issued based on the diminished resell value of the book and the extent of wear and tear. The partial refund amount will be determined at our discretion after careful inspection of the returned book.

Examples of Partial Refund Scenarios (Illustrative, not exhaustive):

  • Minor Signs of Handling: Books returned with very minor signs of handling, such as a slightly creased spine or gently bent corner (but still otherwise unread and unmarked), may receive a partial refund of 50-70% of the original purchase price.
  • Moderate Signs of Use: Books returned with more noticeable signs of use, such as a moderately creased spine, slightly dog-eared pages, or minor cover blemishes, may receive a partial refund of 20-50% of the original purchase price.
  • Significant Use or Damage: Books returned with heavy creasing, extensively dog-eared pages, highlighting, writing, stains, damage to the cover, or other significant damage will likely be rejected for return entirely or may receive a minimal partial refund (under 20%) to account for any salvageable value.

The determination of “resellable condition” and the partial refund percentage is at the discretion of Book Padho’s returns inspection team and is final. We aim to be fair and consistent in our assessments.

Refund Process

Once your returned item is received and meticulously inspected to determine its condition (typically within 3-5 business days), we will send you an email to confirm receipt and notify you of the approval or rejection of your full refund, or to inform you of the partial refund amount if applicable.

If a full refund is approved, or after you agree to a partial refund offer, the approved refund amount will be processed, and credit will automatically be applied to your original payment method within 5-10 business days. Please note that processing times may vary slightly depending on your bank or payment provider.

Damaged Items or Incorrect Orders – Full Refund or Replacement Guaranteed

If you receive a book that is damaged in transit (e.g., damaged spine, torn cover, water damage) or if we have shipped you the wrong item, please contact us immediately within 7 days of receiving your order at [email protected].

  • Please provide clear photos of the damaged item(s) and the shipping packaging (if damaged) and your order number.
  • In these cases of damaged items or incorrect orders due to our error, we guarantee a full refund or a replacement with the correct item, at your preference. We will process this as quickly as possible and at no cost to you.
  • We will provide you with clear instructions on how to return the damaged or incorrect item (if return is required), and Book Padho will cover all return shipping fees in these situations.

Exchanges (Primarily for Damaged or Incorrect Items)

Exchanges are primarily offered for situations where you received a defective item or a damaged/incorrect order as outlined in the “Damaged Items or Incorrect Orders” section. In these cases, we will gladly exchange the item for the correct, undamaged product, if available.

For returns of books in “new and unread resellable condition” that meet our full refund eligibility requirements, we generally process refunds back to your original payment method rather than direct exchanges, allowing you to place a new order for a different title if desired. Exchange options for sale items (in specific cases) will be discussed with you by our Customer Support team on a case-by-case basis.

Sale Items

Please be aware of the following policy for sale items:

  • Regular Priced Items Eligible for Full Refund: Only regular-priced items are eligible for consideration for a full refund if returned in new and unread resellable condition and meeting all other return criteria.
  • Sale Items Generally Final Sale & Non-Refundable (Except for Damage/Defect): Sale items are typically sold at significantly discounted prices and are considered final sale. Refunds are generally not offered on sale items, unless the sale item arrives damaged or defective (see “Damaged Items or Incorrect Orders”).
  • Possible Exchanges for Sale Items (Case-by-Case): In certain limited situations, for sale items (excluding damaged/defective cases), we may consider offering an exchange for a different book of equal or lesser value that is also a sale item (if available in our current sale stock), depending on overall stock and at our discretion. Please contact Customer Support to inquire about potential exchange options for sale items, but note that refunds are generally not available.

Gifts

  • Items Marked as Gifts: If the item was marked as a ‘gift’ during purchase and shipped directly to you, and the return is approved (based on condition and policy), you will receive a Book Padho gift credit for the value of the return. This gift credit will be sent to you electronically (via email) or physically (if preferred) once we receive and process the returned item.
  • Items Not Marked as Gifts (or Sent to Gift Giver): For items not marked as gifts during purchase, or if the gift-giver had the order shipped to themselves to give to you later, any approved refund will be issued to the original gift giver using their original payment method. The gift giver will also be notified of the return in such cases.

Shipping Your Return (For Authorized Returns)

For returns that have been explicitly authorized by our Customer Support team, please carefully follow these shipping guidelines:

  1. Secure Packaging is Essential: Please ensure the book(s) are very securely packaged to prevent any further damage during return shipping. Ideally, use the original packaging if it is still in good condition. Use bubble wrap, packing paper, or other protective materials to cushion the book and prevent shifting inside the package. Book Padho is not responsible for damage incurred during return shipping due to inadequate packaging.
  2. Ship to the Address Provided: Mail your authorized return to the specific return address provided to you by our Customer Support team in your return authorization email. Do not send returns to our general business address unless specifically instructed.
  3. Customer Pays Return Shipping (Except for Damaged/Incorrect Orders): Unless the return is due to damaged or incorrect items sent by Book Padho (in which case we will provide prepaid shipping), you are responsible for paying all return shipping costs. Shipping costs are non-refundable and will be deducted from your refund amount (if a full refund is applicable, or from any partial refund issued).
  4. Shipping Time Varies: Please be aware that the time it takes for your exchanged product to reach you (if an exchange is specifically agreed upon) may vary depending on your location and courier service.
  5. (Strongly Recommended for Valuable Returns) Use Trackable Shipping: For returning books of higher value or for ensuring proof of your return shipment, we strongly recommend using a trackable shipping service that provides shipment tracking and delivery confirmation. Consider also purchasing shipping insurance for valuable items. Book Padho cannot be held responsible for returns that are lost or damaged in transit if a trackable and insured shipping method is not used, and we cannot guarantee receipt of returns shipped without tracking.

If you have not seen your refund credited to your account within 10 business days after receiving our refund approval email (or agreement on a partial refund amount), please follow these steps to investigate:

  1. Double-Check Your Bank Account: Carefully review your recent bank account or payment method transaction history online.
  2. Contact Your Payment Provider (Credit Card Company, etc.): Refund postings can sometimes take slightly longer to fully process and appear on your statement, depending on your payment provider’s processing times.
  3. Contact Your Bank Directly: Your bank may also have processing times before refunds are fully reflected in your account balance.
  4. Contact Book Padho Customer Support: If you have completed steps 1-3 and still cannot locate your refund after 10 business days, please immediately contact our Customer Support team at [email protected].
